Hair Implants For Women

By

Women And Hair Implants

Hair Implants originally were devised in the 1950's to help cover up bald spots on men.  When a man loses his hair their is usually only a section of the head that goes bald.  This is called male pattern baldness.  Women on the other hand usually don't have patterns of baldness, instead they have thinning of the hair over the entire head.  This is not to say the women can't have bald spots and thus need hair implants for women.  If you are having thinning then there are several products and programs available on the web that will help you to get the head of hair you want.

Hair thinning and pattern baldness are really two seperate issues in how they can be dealt with. With pattern baldness hair implants work very well because there are areas of the scalp that are still covered with hair follicles and thus portions of that area of the scalp can be surgically removed and the hair follicles transplanted to the bald patch.

With hair thinning there is not a good section of the scalp that still contains an abundance of hair follicles to be transplanted. The thing that works really well with the hair implant procedure is the ease with which the donor area can be covered up. Normally a strip of scalp is removed and the hair is harvested from that before being reinserted. After the removal, the scalp is sutured back up and the donor area is almost undetectable.

If a person is suffering from hair thinning there are other procedures and techniques that can work much better.  For men the drug with the brand name Propecia has given good results but this is not an option for most women and it can cause birth defects.

Hair implant and all the other options should be considered before you make a decision on what to do about your thinning hair.

Hair Implant Procedure

The basic idea behind hair implants is really quite simple.  A slice of the scalp that still contains hair is removed and the resulting slit sutured shut.  A technician then takes the slice of scalp and uses a microscope to seperate all the hair follicles .

Once the individual hairs are prepared the plastic surgeon inserts them into the bald portion of the scalp.  A skilled surgeon can lay the hair groups in a way that makes the hair looks absolutely natural.  The hair is natural in that it comes from the head that it is being transplanted to and the laying of the follicles allows it to follow the other hair in a natural layer.

I "suffer" from male pattern baldness, but I don't let it bug me, just shave it all off. I can see how for women this is much more of an issue. Sounds like a very technical procedure, but good to know that it is an option for women suffering from thinning.

I did have a small bald patch caused by scarring following an accident when I was younger, but thankfully most of the hair has grown back. I would certainly have considered some sort of treatment or implants if it hadn't. Bald men may be sexy but bald women aren't!

I agree Litany,

I see more and more women cutting their hair real short but not too many bald ones yet.

As the famous saying goes, “you don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone,” hits right at home especially when what you’ve lost is constantly brought into awareness everytime you look in the mirror. Hair loss had been one of the problems that truly affects women self esteem and confidence. That's why there are women who are able opt for hair implants. http://www.aihr.com.au/
